Dr Jerry Mathekga
Research Specialist
Dr. Jerry Mathekga is a research specialist at the Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (CeSTII), within the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) of South Africa, working as part of the research team that is dedicated to producing policy relevant research and statistical analysis in the domain of science, technology and innovation (STI). He graduated with a BA Degree majoring in Political Science and Industrial & Economic Sociology from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), Johannesburg; Master's degree in political science from the University of Stellenbosch, Cape Town; and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD in Sociology, industrial Sociology) from Rhodes University, Grahamstown, Eastern Cape.

Prior to joining the HSRC, Dr Mathekga worked for the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) as a Research Assistant intern, Committee Monitor for Parliamentary Monitoring Group (PMG), a Researcher at the University of Cape Town’' Democratic Governance & Rights unit, as well as a Content Researcher for the South African History Online (SAHO).


Dr Mathekga has gained theoretical and practical research knowledge and experience in both his academic and professional careers. His research areas of interest include, amongst others, political economy, research and development (R&D) in the business sector, development and labour, and economic policy. He has several published journal articles and book chapters.
